So, hey… Obviously, this isn’t a Spellbound update (part 1 begins here, in case you haven’t been reading); it will return next week, on Thursday, January 9, 2014.
This particular Thursday has the dubious distinction of being the day AFTER New Year’s Day, also know as Sumayyah Talibah’s birthday. *applause* Thank you, thank you. So, happy birthday to me. This year, I’m not asking for gifts, per se. I do take DONATIONS (see that button to your right that says “donate”? Click it. Click it right now!); I have a lovely assortment of JEWELRY available for purchase; I even have a couple of short stories and poetry chapbooks in EBOOK form.
A new year, a new age (I’m 34, in case you were wondering), and I have to say: wow. 2013 (and, by default, age 33) was…not the best of years for me. It wasn’t a terrible year, but it could have been so much better. I am thankful for the challenges and lessons the year gave me, as well as being thankful to all of you who have read my posts, purchased my goods, and shared my links with your friends.
I use my birthday as a time of reflection and introspection. With my birthday being so close to the turning of the calendar, it’s a double dose of hard thinking and self-examination for me. What did I do for the last year? What do I hope to accomplish in the next 365 days on this Earth/plane of existence? I did manage to complete (and pass) my goal of reading 250 books in 2013. (You can follow me on GOODREADS if you want to be nosy about what I’m reading.) I made real money from jewelry sales, and I managed to be published twice in SISTERS magazine. I have a piece appearing in another anthology soon, Dear Sister: Letters From Survivors of Sexual Violence. I have grown as a person, as a wife, a mother, a writer, an artist.
