we are not
faceless & nameless
but forbidden & forgotten
in this war declared on us
on trial for daring to die
at the hands of one sworn to kill
shamed & ridiculed for trying to love & live
accused & indicted & executed at will
when our stories are told out of context & out of turn
when the only solution seems to be to burn
when canisters of smoke and pepper spray come hurtling through our windows & we have flashbacks to dogs & water hoses
when people in sheets parade in the streets & we are told to disperse in peace
dehumanized & denied the right to survive
we hold on to our babies & cry
