Bury Me (poem)

phantom tears
carve rivers of flame down my cheeks
as they spring fully formed from my
evil-seeing eyes
and flow
to my hastily sealed lips
seeping through the cracks of my chapped flesh
to burn my tongue
to ash
sand fills
my nostrils and ears
to better embrace the silence that awaits
me as i sink beneath the ground
in protest of this travesty of survival
alive but unliving
duty-bound to harm
that which crosses my path
