Redirection – poem (#15)

redirection

i was going to write a poem
about beauty
about how muddy puddles still reflect rainbows
but then
i read
the news
about bombs and bodies and boarding revoked
about lips leaving bloody imprints on glass
about how the real war is not race but class
and my thoughts
skidded
to
a
stop
because people are dying
but that’s okay
when there’s golf to play
and land to buy
and some people don’t even have food
when the same handful of dollars
moves around in a circle
and elders are pushed to the streets
and people fight for the right
to cry out
I AM
and their voices are denied
at the gate
