Spring Lies – poem (#20)

spring lies

gray skies and nothing blooms
wooden limbs are falling
buds are crushed
under the onslaught of hail and shame
flooded roadways stall me
my field of dreams is mud
one cracked foundation later
and my landscape is desolate
with nothing left to nurture
no chance of a rainbow with no sun

i was told
that spring had come
i was told that this would pass
i was told
that spring had come
i was never told
it wouldn’t last

i’m underwater
where nothing grows
can’t even find a space to try
never again
will i be dry
and warmth
is a thing
lost to time

i was told
that spring had come
i was told that this would pass
i was told
that spring had come
i was never told
it wouldn’t last
