5th of July – poem

5th of July

And once the smoke dissipates
And the sky is again clear
And the litter is swept and discarded
And some of us are still not free
What will you do?
Cuz see we honor the vets
And their blood sacrifices
With words we cannot define
As we wave our made in China flags
And pretend to love all that we despise
We throw parties for the people
Living in someone else’s home
And pay for the gifts that they stole
